InTouch With (Export to Palm Desktop)  InTouch With Icon

There are two ways to get your InTouch With Data into your Palm. They have different advantages and disadvantages. The options are Exporting to the Palm Address Book or to the Palm Memo Pad. In both cases, this is exporting from InTouch With and importing to Palm. If you have entries in the Palm Desktop that are in the InTouch With file, there will be duplicates. There is no way to go from [synchronize] the Palm into InTouch With.

A. Exporting to the Palm Address Book

You can get some of your data into the Palm Address Book. It will be imported into the Palm Desktop program as address entries. While useful, there are some key limitations:

* No Notes are saved. The Palm Address book limits notes to 254 bytes, thus not particularly useful.
* Phone Numbers must have tags attached. InTouch With will not see any phone numbers without a tag preceding it, and can only have one of each (work, home, cell, fax).
* Addresses are parsed, based on assumptions that the address is in a format similar to standard U.S. addresses. Generally, it expects this format:

Name(Optional)
Org (with tag)
Address 1
Address 2 (Optional)
City State ZIP

To import into the Palm Address Book, follow these steps.

Open the file in InTouch With.

Go to the File Menu, drag down to Export, and select Export Phone List. You are asked for a file, type something like "phone list", and from the "Where" select Desktop. Save.

Open the Palm Desktop program. From the File Menu, choose "Import", select Desktop from the "From" pop-up menu, and select the phone list file.

The window below will appear. You must drag the fields in the window so that every field on the right side of the window matches up with an appropriate field on the left side.

When you are done, they should match up as follows:

First Name

Company

When you have the columns matched up, click Import. All entries from your exported file will be imported into your Palm Desktop. Sync from your Palm Desktop to your Palm, and you are done!

B. Exporting to the Palm Memo Pad

As an alternative to exporting to the Palm Address book, you can put your InTouch With entries in the Palm Memo Pad. This has several advantages, your addresses and notes are maintained completely. No parsing is necessary, so all records will appear as desired. However, the entries will show up as memos, they will not appear in the Palm's address book.

To import into the Palm Memo Pad, follow these steps.

Open the file in InTouch With.

Go to the File Menu, drag down to Export, and select Export Palm Memos. You are asked for a file, type something like "palm memos", and from the "Where" select Desktop. Save.

Open the Palm Desktop program. From the File Menu, choose "Import", select Desktop from the "From" pop-up menu, and select the palm memos file.

The window below will appear. In The Fields pop-up menu, choose "Memos". Then, drag the fields in the window so that every field on the right side of the window matches up with an appropriate field on the left side.

When you are done, they should match up as follows:

When you have the columns matched up, click Import. All entries from your exported file will be imported into your Palm Desktop as Memos. Sync from your Palm Desktop to your Palm, and you are done!
